Hip Replacement Kit
By Ross Bryan
Hip replacements are now a very common surgical procedure. As
our life expectancy expands, we all look forward to more years of
meaningful activity. In doing so we put a lot more
"mileage" on the "ol' bones".
Convalescence is reasonably short lived. Follow the doctors
orders, listen to the physiotherapist and you can expect to be up
and active and scaring the heck out of the younger folk in no
time at all.
During the time from the surgery to activity there can be some
frustrating times.
Here is a list of some of the inexpensive articles that can
help recuperating from this, or many other surgeries:
- A reacher is a stick with a grabber on one end and an
attached trigger on the other. With this you can get a
healthy (pardon the pun) 24" to 36" extension
to your reach for things. They can pick up the thinnest
paper to heavy can of soup. Many also have a magnet for
getting pins, coins, etc.
- A stocking aid can make dressing easier. If you can't
reach your toes it's next to impossible to get a pair of
socks on. This device lets you do just that.
- Shoes are another problem. There are two items to help
you here. Firstly, an extra long shoehorn. Now combine
that with elastic shoe laces and you've got the great
combination for getting those shoes on and off.
- But, you ask, how do I get to wash the far end of my
being if I can't reach it? Well for that we've got a
bathing sponge with a handle. Yup, you can reach your
tooties. Oh, and the handle bends so that you can reach
that spot on your back without going into contortions.
One more thing. Many healthcare suppliers have all the above
items in a kit. Buying them all at once can save you some money.
